The Leatherhead Link was launched on October 1st 2018 and is run as a separate service under the umbrella of MSM. The Link is headed by Catherine Shrimpton, a Mencap Shared Lives carer and fellow Trustee. Catherine approached MSM with the idea of running a day service due to difficulties she was experiencing with one of her charges who was refusing to attend a Surrey Choices hub. After completing some background research on possible take up numbers for day users the Committee agreed to support her request.
The Link runs on Mondays and Thursdays with a view to expand to more days if take up increases. We have 11 regular attendees with a further 3 who have shown interest. The current cohort are of mixed ability with moderate to severe learning disabilities, one of whom has challenging behaviour.
The Leatherhead Link is aiming to provide a rich variety of activities which include life skills, gardening, keep fit, boccia, arts and crafts, excursions, hosting drop ins and most importantly an opportunity to socialise over a home cooked mid day meal.
