Who we are
Mid-Surrey Mencap is a registered charity (1160493).
We provide support and recreational services for children and adults with learning disabilities in Epsom and Ewell, Mole Valley and Banstead, Surrey.
The charity was founded by a group of parents in 1958 to meet the needs of their learning disabled children. At the time there were no services for special needs people other than mental institutions.
In June 2018 Mid-Surrey Mencap celebrated 60 years of serving the learning disabled community. We are still run by volunteers.
The Leatherhead Link is run as a separate service under the umbrella of Mid-Surrey Mencap. The Link is headed by Catherine Shrimpton, a Mencap Shared Lives Carer and Trustee of Mid-Surrey Mencap.
Mid-Surrey Mencap is an independent, local charity. We are responsible for all of our own funding. Although we are in partnership with National Mencap, we receive no funding from them.
All of our funds are invested in the services we offer. Our board members are all volunteers and we employ one part-time employee to oversee the hall and services. Our latest audited accounts are easily accessible via the Charity Commission website.
Our services are offered at affordable rates so that everyone can join.
